Caffeine Content Comparison

I started with an idea to look at the caffeine content of various drinks and foods. The research proved interesting. Revealing in fact. There is a great deal online on this. For brevity I use just use one site The Energy Fiend, and some of the drinks listed. Caveat – other sources differ in the data, and with coffees and teas much depends on source, individual roasting (for coffee) and processing, and brewing.

Looking at mg of caffeine per ounce (oz) of liquid:

So what is the big attraction for energy drinks and the like? If caffeine was important to me a double espresso or an 8 oz pour over filter coffee (at 144.8 mg total) would do. And a good coffee doesn’t need sugar* either!

*The site The Energy Fiend also lists the sugar content of drinks. Another interesting set of data.
