Signs of Summer…..Blue Birds & Canada Day

The baby Blue Bird (we think there is only one) in the nesting box in the yard decided to leave the box yesterday. Canada Day.

So until he (she?) gets his wings we have been instructed not to let the cats out and the dog is to be supervised! Needless to say the cats are desperate. “House cats we are not, besides there is a nice juicy young, tender Blue Bird out there!” “What’s the problem?”

Little Blue Bird I hope you get your wings quickly because these cats are quite trying, sounding off at all hours of the night!

Other summer signs aside from Canada Day and Baby Blue Birds,

  • The Fireweed has started blooming, and what I can see of the swaths of it beside the PPJ trail they will be putting on a good show
  • Meadow Rue has been blooming a little bit already
  • Often confused with that rather undesirable alien Hogsweed, the Cow Parsnip is blooming
  • I have seen some open blooms on Common Milkweed
