Signs of Spring………..The Vireo that Warbles!

I am not a bird specialist or expert or what ever! I like watching them and I can identify a few, but now there’s another complication added to that “identify that bird” thing. The Warbling Vireo.

As if there aren’t enough Warblers out there that are difficult to identify (especially once fall arrives), and then trying to tell the difference between the different Vireos is beyond me. Now I find out, just to add interest, that there is the Warbling Vireo. Apparently there was one around the house this past weekend. See for yourself. http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/warbling_vireo/id

Other spring signs:

  • We have had those white and yellow butterflies around for a few days (Cabbage butterflies???)
  • There was a Black and Yellow Swallow Tail in the garden yesterday
  • The Mountain Ash trees have started blooming
  • It looks like we have a pair of Bluebirds nesting in one of the boxes
  • An it would seem that a pair of Great Crested Flycatchers is nesting close by too
  • On my ride in this morning I spied some Canada Anemone
  • Also on my ride in that nemesis of summer, the Deer Fly announced his arrival by biting me on the leg
  • The hedgerows and their Hawthornes are in full bloom. The sounds from the pollinators around the flowers is impressive
