Signs of Spring………A Mixed Bag!

The weather report is calling for a real mixed bag. Sunshine, clouds and flurries tonight.

Stepping out of the house this morning was another mixed bag:

  • Junkos and Sparrows flew off from the feeder
  • Sandhill Cranes called from about three different directions
  • Farther down the road from the house I saw four Sandhill Cranes standing tall on the crest of a hill in a hay field to   the north
  • To the south, in a pasture on the other side of the road, sneaking away through the Hawthornes were four Turkeys
  • Beyond the Turkeys a very large flock of Red-Winged Blackbirds and Grackles took off
  • I met a couple of Northern Harriers as I continued
  • Kestrels flew from the wires
  • Still later a White Throated Sparrow was heard and later seen at the feeder
  • Yesterday a Shrike made an appearance
  • Not to mention the ubiquitous Robins marking territory in the fields and from every other tree top
